Provider-Ordered Scans

At Baby Haven KC, we provide non-emergent pregnancy imaging focused on clear visualization, accurate exams, affordable self-pay options, and a meaningful experience for parents. All diagnostic studies are performed by an experienced RDMS sonographer following receipt of a provider order and scheduled patient appointment, and are interpreted by board-certified radiologists to ensure clinical accuracy and reliable reporting.

We collaborate with referring midwives and healthcare providers throughout the Kansas City area to support continuity of care, along with providing professional ultrasounds and quality prints for patients. Providers may fax orders to 913-543-3014 or submit referrals through our Referring Providers page.

Diagnostic (Medical) Ultrasounds

  • Performed abdominally with a positive pregnancy test, performed before 14 weeks.

    This routine first-trimester ultrasound (CPT 76801) evaluates number of babies, measurements, early development, placenta, and amniotic fluid. Printed photos are included. Results are sent to your provider within a few business days; please follow up with your provider for interpretation.

  • Performed after 20+ weeks @ Baby Haven KC.

    This routine second-trimester ultrasound (CPT 76805) evaluates baby’s growth and development, including major organs, placenta, and amniotic fluid in detail. Printed photos are included. Results are sent to your provider within a few business days; please follow up with your provider for interpretation.

  • Performed after 14 weeks.

    This quick, focused ultrasound (CPT 76815) provides reassurance and targeted information for your provider. Printed photos are included. Results are sent to your provider within a few business days; please follow up with your provider for interpretation.

  • Performed after 14 weeks.

    This follow-up/growth ultrasound (CPT 76816) is used to reassess and monitor prior findings. Printed photos are included. Results are sent to your provider within a few business days; please follow up with your provider for interpretation.

  • Performed after 32 weeks without NST.

    This detailed ultrasound (CPT 76819) evaluates your baby’s overall well-being in the third trimester. Results are sent to your provider for review and follow-up care. Printed photos are included.

  • Performed vaginally with a positive pregnancy test, provider order, and patient consent. No STAT exams! (30 minutes)

    This diagnostic vaginal obstetric ultrasound (CPT 76817) is performed when medically indicated to evaluate structures requested by your provider. Images are reviewed and finalized by our radiologist. Printed photos are included if desired. Results are sent to your provider within a few business days; please follow up with your provider after results are posted. (CPT 76817)

  • Yes. Diagnostic ultrasounds at Baby Haven are medical exams performed to evaluate fetal development, anatomy, growth, placentation, and maternal structures as ordered or clinically indicated. These studies are distinct from keepsake or entertainment ultrasounds and follow clinical imaging standards.

  • All diagnostic exams are performed by the founder and lead sonographer of Baby Haven, an ARDMS-registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with extensive experience in OB/GYN, high-risk/MFM, and general radiology. Baby Haven does not use trainees, unlicensed employees, or rotating staff.

  • Baby Haven does not offer urgent or stat ultrasounds and focuses on scheduled, non-emergent imaging with thorough review and patient education.

    We complement but do not replace OB, midwife, or MFM care and refer patients when higher-level monitoring or inpatient care is needed. For acute symptoms, contact your OB provider or go to a hospital.

  • Diagnostic studies are reviewed by qualified interpreting radiologists with maternal-fetal medicine–level experience. Reports are generated in alignment with clinical standards and are shared with referring providers via fax.

  • All diagnostic exams, and vaginal ultrasounds at Baby Haven KC require a provider order, provider signature/date, exam, and reason.

    If you are unsure whether an order is needed, please contact us prior to scheduling and we will guide you appropriately.

  • Baby Haven is a self-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly.

    A detailed superbill/invoice can be provided upon request for potential reimbursement. Some HSA/FSA cards may be accepted depending on individual plan coverage. Full pricing transparency is available prior to scheduling.

  • Baby Haven does not provide results directly to patients.

    All findings are sent to your provider for review and adequate medical consultation. If further evaluation is needed, your provider will guide next steps at that time, including referral to MFM or hospital care.

  • Reports are finalized by qualified radiologists within 1-3 business days, and faxed to the ordering healthcare provider. Baby Haven does not provide immediate results to patients. Your provider determines when and how to review the results with you for consistency of care.

  • Medical records and official reports are available only for diagnostic ultrasounds ordered by a licensed healthcare provider with a valid NPI #.

    Baby Haven does not provide medical records for elective or non‑diagnostic visits, as those services are not considered medical imaging. For a diagnostic report or images, confirm that your appointment was a diagnostic visit with a provider referral. Then contact Baby Haven or submit your request via fax to (913) 543‑3014.

  • For diagnostic ultrasounds, we allow up to two guests (18+ only) to accompany mom for support.

  • Exam times at Baby Haven aren’t necessarily longer, we simply follow STANDARD, medically appropriate ultrasound exam durations.

    We allow sufficient time to complete each study thoroughly, capture all necessary images, and minimize the need for repeat scans. This approach ensures high-quality, accurate imaging, supports sonographer focus, and provides ample time for patient education, celebration, and questions.
