Whatthdifference?

The typical two dimensional black & white imaging that you would see at a physician’s office. This type of imaging is helpful when performing screenings to rule out pathology, and when recording
baby’s heartbeat.

2D Imaging

The yellowish three dimensional imaging that allows for the documentation of baby’s detailed features. This type of imaging was the first of its type to show patient anatomy realistically by ultrasound! It is mostly used in physician’s offices & hospitals better visualize uterine polyps, IUD placements, etc.

3D Imaging

The smooth orange tinted multidimensional imaging similar to 3D, but in motion. This type of imaging allows us to see baby stretching, smiling, yawning & more LIVE!

4D Imaging

The flesh-like multidimensional imaging that allows us to see an EVEN MORE detailed image of baby than 4D, also in motion. This type of imaging is the most detailed ultrasound option available
at Baby Haven.

FAQS

When is the recommended time for 3D/4D/HD ultrasounds?

Baby Haven offers 3D/4D/HD live ultrasounds for anyone at any stage in pregnancy as long as you are 7+ weeks. Recommended time frames can be found under the service descriptions when booking, or at the bottom of the ‘Services’ page. Most of our clients prefer to see baby from 30-34 weeks. The longer you wait, the more detail and the more developed baby’s features will be.

See our ‘Gallery’ page for a timeline of ultrasound photos to choose when you think is best for you!

What if I have an anterior placenta?

Anterior placentas can cause 3D/4D/HD scans to be slightly more challenging if fluid is low. However, you can help by increasing water intake for 5 days leading up to your session, and our sonographer recommends booking your session before 34 weeks.

What is an ultrasound?

Ultrasound, or sonography, is a form of imaging that uses sound waves to create images of our organs without using radiation. The ultrasound probe sends sound waves into the tissue layer by layer, and an image is formed on the screen based on the information that returns. The more tissue the sound waves pass through, the brighter the information is that comes back to the machine! This is the reason fluid shows up black and bones show up white.

How is an ultrasound performed?

Ultrasounds are performed by using a probe that sends sound waves through tissue. The sound waves travel directly to and from the ultrasound probe via gel. During the exam, gel is used to eliminate space between the probe and skin surface to help the sound waves create a clear image.

Do I need a full bladder?

If you are booking a 1st Trimester scan, it is preferred you do not use the restroom prior to your appointment. Having a full bladder pushes bowel out of the way and creates a clearer image of baby, since baby is still very small. If you arrive with an empty bladder, it is not guaranteed we will be able to perform your scan or accommodate your full booked appointment.

If you are booking a 2nd or 3rd Trimester scan, you DO NOT need a full bladder.

Reminders will be sent via text message and email. Make sure to opt in!

How do I prepare for my visit?

To help you prepare for your specific visit, we have listed prep tips on our ‘Services’ page, created appointment reminders, confirmations, and SMS messages that contain all the information you may need! If you are still curious, visit our services page for prep tips by trimester.

What ultrasounds are offered at Baby Haven?

We DO NOT perform screening or diagnostic ultrasounds in the studio just yet. Baby Haven services are currently elective only 2D/3D/4D & HD Live ultrasounds to show you baby’s features and baby’s heart beating. We offer several options for every stage of pregnancy.

Why book with Baby Haven?

Baby Haven has a high success rate of seeing baby. With our experienced sonographer, wide range of services, more time given to every appointment, the cozy mama chair, relaxing environment, and fun shopping experience you are guaranteed to enjoy your time in the studio. Our mamas have been satisfied enough to return up to 8 & 9 times throughout their pregnancies!

What is the difference between elective and diagnostic ultrasounds?

Baby Haven ultrasounds are elective only. Meaning they aren’t ordered by your doctor and we do not evaluate your baby’s well-being other than showing you the heartbeat. Our ultrasounds are more for fun and allow you to bond with baby in an intimate setting.

Diagnostic ultrasounds are ordered by a physician for medical purposes whether that is a routine screening or medical emergency.

What payment options does Baby Haven offer?

Baby Haven accepts 50% deposits OR full payments when booking appointments. Remaining balances will be paid at the studio before the session beings. Accepted payments — cash, card or apple pay.

How many people can I bring to the studio?

Due to the current size and location of the studio, you may bring up to 6 guests AGE 5+ only, with no exceptions to the age policy. The age policy can also be found in the consent form that is to be agreed to before booking. Our mission is to give parents and employees a comfortable and relaxing experience in the short time we are together. Young children have been proven to create an environment that goes against our mission.

Are ultrasounds safe?

Absolutely! Ultrasounds are simply sound waves entering the body. There is no exposure limit or radiation. Thus, nothing to worry about for mama or baby.

Will I always get a photo of my baby’s face?

Although we have a very high success rate, we cannot guarantee you will walk away with a full face photo of your baby. However, you ARE guaranteed to get photos of anything cute we can see by ultrasound at the time of your appointment such as baby’s feet, hands, etc. Not seeing the face is caused by baby’s position, not enough amniotic fluid, and position of the umbilical cord. Our machine has some of the best GE technology allowing our sonographer to crop and remove objects from the front of their face, but it does not allow us to flip baby around. To mitigate these situations, we have prepared text messages and emails to help you best prepare for your visit. With added time to your session, we have the ability to try several ways to attempt to move baby.

If baby refuses to show their face, we have had a high success rate with candy, belly headphones, getting mama to move around or dance, drinking cold water and even using a light on mama’s belly to wake baby! Our women’s specific ultrasound machine allows us to crop some objects from the front of the face, but if baby is not in the correct position (facing up or to the side) our sonographer will have a very difficult time showing you baby’s full face.

*The best time to schedule your 3D/4D/HD Live appointments for every trimester can be found in the descriptions on our booking page. *

When do you recommend scheduling a gender ultrasound?

We recommend confirming gender by ultrasound after 15 weeks.

Baby’s genitals have transitioned from a “nub” to genitalia — making gender ultrasounds, performed by an experienced sonographer after 15 weeks, the most accurate way to determine baby’s gender before birth. Baby Haven offers gender predictions at 13-14 weeks as an add-on service in the 1st trimester, or SneakPeek Clinical after just 6 weeks.

What is The “Nub” Theory?

The “Nub” Theory is an early gender prediction tool that analyzes the angle of baby’s genital tubercle, or nub, in comparison to the spine. The angle for males is greater than 30 degrees. The angle for females is less than 30 degrees. Accuracy for early gender predictions performed after 13 weeks is 97-98%, similar to blood testing.

Baby Haven’s returning mamas have had a high success rate with the “nub” theory. This is a great option for curious or impatient parents, and it is a lot of fun!

What is SneakPeek Clinical?

SneakPeek Clinical is the #1 OBGYN recommended early sex DNA detection test offered to women starting at 6 weeks into pregnancy. SneakPeek looks for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA in mom’s blood. If they’re present, the baby is a boy. If none are found, it’s a girl!

The full service includes a trained professional drawing a small blood sample via the Snap Device in the comfort of the ultrasound studio, and then the sample is mailed to SneakPeek Labs for processing.

How long until I get my SneakPeek results?

SneakPeek laboratories offer the fastest turnaround times in the industry, with a choice of selecting ‘Fasttrack’ add-on for a small fee when booking.

Standard results turnaround can be anywhere from 3-5 days.

Fasttrack results will be sent the day the sample reaches the SneakPeek Lab and has been processed, which can be anywhere from 2-3 days.

What is Baby Haven’s return policy?

Returns are not accepted at this time.

Can I use my insurance or HSA card at Baby Haven?

Insurance — No, we are self pay only.

HSA Cards — It depends on your insurance company. Some people have had success with their HSA cards and some have been declined. We suggest attempting to book online. If the payment goes through, it worked! If not, we recommend calling your insurance company.

What is Baby Haven’s cancellation policy?

All appointments are required to give a 24 hour notice to receive a refund. If a 24 hour notice is not given, you will NOT receive a refund. I understand Baby Haven cancellations will be charged a processing fee of 3%. It is recommended to reschedule to avoid the processing fee.

What is Baby Haven’s photography/phone policy?

Taking photos of and/or with loved ones at the studio is encouraged! However, recording or photographing the tv without consent is not allowed. Baby Haven is a small business that operates off photography sales. All content created during the session (photos & videos) is available for purchase via multiple affordable avenues. Influencers, bloggers, etc. are allowed to share experiences inside Baby Haven as long as it is communicated before the session begins and @BabyHavenKC is tagged.
